sorry for not speaking czech but i hope you can understand me.

I have a pair of tesla arn930 speakers and i plan to build active subwoofer (or maybe even two of them).
I have two ideas:

1. to build two exact enclosure copies of ars850 ( http://repromania.net/tesla/tesla-repro ... rs-850.php ) of course without fullrange speaker and use them as two ACTIVE subwoofers.

2. to build only one bigger mono enclosure (250-300 litres), connect two arn930 together (8 ohm) also active.

I definitely want sealed enclosure, no bass reflex!!!

And i want to use either reckhorn a402 or hypex ds2.0 subwoofer amplifiers with possibility of active frequency control.

What do you think??? Any pro or cons??? What´s your opinion???

Are those speakers original? (not reconed etc).
For first, the amplifier. May be it´s better to not use it, because it has 1x 400w Thats a lot more than the speakers can handle (for old speakers its better old amplifier). No one knows when someone turn volume right up.
The cabinets, i think its on you if you want one speaker in one cabinet, or two speakers on cabinet. For one speaker cca 100 litres.

150L is about right for the ARN930 in my opinion, maybe even bigger enclosure would be worth trying. And be careful with the amplifier, ARN930 can withstand around 100W only short term, long term power rating is only 25W. You can use more powerful amplifier, but use it wisely. ARN930s are rare nowadays and recone is virtually impossible.

Anyway, my pair is all original and in great condition. I was temporarily using it in akr153 enclosures which sounded fine but had some bad resonance issue. I think the enclosures are not stiff enough and no proper for arn930. It worked as passive subwoofer crossed at 250hz second order crossover. It sounded very well with tube amplifier

As for the amplifiers, i think the power is not an issue, it is easier to destroy a speaker if you have "dirty" amplification that starts clipping very fast. I will of course keep the low power possibilities of arn930 in my mind. I will cross them very low, at 50-60Hz i think.

Very hard to decide. One BIG subwoofer would probably kick ass, otherwise for stereo purposes which i think of, two of them would probably be a better option.

Anyone of you uses arn930 or even better - the ars840 ???? can anyone describe the bass quality in the original enclosure???

Recently I am trying to realize subwoofer with one ARN 930 for my friend. Best works closed chamber about 200l. I run some simulation and I found that bigger volume hasn´t so great effect, than I expected. Do you have possibility to measure Ts parameters? Maybee your piece has parameters suitable also for bassreflex (see parameters of Thales´s speaker) but it is very rare .

i don´t have any possibilty to check the TSP...but your opinion fits mine, closed enclosure with about 200 liter would be fine. The enclosure of original ars850 was approximately 200 literes and also closed.

What is "Thales" speaker you speak of???

one more thing: i also have a pair of arn speakers which i assume are arn938 cause of 8 ohm impedance these play very well in bassreflex

Which speakers do you have in bassreflex enclosure? Could you tell me internal volume and tunning? Are they whole paper coned or with rubber edge? ARN 938 is also "rubber speaker"

The arn982 (as i assume) are paper cones with rubber suspensions. I will post some pictures later. The enclosure i used, is the AKR153 bass enclosure which is appx. 100cm HIgh, 70 width, 40 deep. It´s about 250 liters. It shuold probably worh better if it´d be heavier, since the heavy cone with rubber suspension, causes some bad enclosure resonances. But all in all, the quality of bass octave was very very good. I didn´t measure how deep they actually play, but i thin 25-30Hz should be doable.

If you put ARN 930/8 into ''bass cabinet'' AKR 153, try to seal bassreflex.

That´s right, i had a lot of tesla speakers. The aro932 and 942, aro9408, ara9918. All of them are great. The arn speaekrs are probably even better unfortunately not so efficient as the older aro932.
I would like to try the active ars641, so if anyone have a pair, just let me know

Yes Tesla have very good speakers. I playing only on tesla amplifiers and speakers, i hate new technics.
ARS 641 are hard to find, and who have it, dont sell
But its dont have much bass, its studio monitors so its dont need bass.
Iam only 16 years old and i must have only tesla things ARS 641 is my dream, maybe i get it. : )

(and ARS 641 need repair of the amplifier modules, its old and if you play on it, it get hot and can caught fire)

There is a big difference - the ARO 9 and especially ARA 9 speakers are made for PA and ARN 9 speakers are made for hi-fi. Naturally, the attributes cannot be similar. All ARN types, also the smaller, are hi-fi speakers with very low resonant frequency. ARN 932 is a little exception, but this is a very special type which can be seen only in ARS 641. You should be a lucky man to get it...

My speaker is with rubber edge and it has impedance of about 7 ohms (I measured it). As I know, the arn 930 has impedance of 15 ohms.
